Can collecting litter make a difference?

The Power of Kindness

To get a complete understanding of Servant Evangelism, you should order and read 'Conspiracy of Kindness' by Steve Sjogren, founding pastor of a church that grew from a handful to an average attendance of 7,500 in just fifteen years.

Who doesn't like to be given a cold Coke on a hot day? Especially by someone who is smiling, happy and having fun!

Can collecting litter make a difference?

We think it can

This is the essence of what Servant Evangelism is about.

Christians are realising that there is a world outside of their churches, in their local area.  No longer stuck inside, Christians are beginning to go out to where the people are.

We desire wherever possible as a church to demonstrate the love of God, especially to the local area.  We carry out various activities so as to enable us to do this based around the Church and at the local shopping precinct.

We regularly carry out our 'conspiracy of kindness' activities in the local area, litter collecting, free drinks and more.  We have also carried out activities on other occasions to the local area, such as Christmas and Easter at the local shopping centre and residential centres with free hot cross buns, cans of coke and other free gifts.

As we step out

As we step out to clean up the local area by collecting litter it is a demonstration of the love of God through His people to people.  A small step but a big opportunity for the local church to show love.

Handing out free gifts

On the Easter Saturdays we have given out free Easter eggs at the local shopping precinct and hundreds of cold iced drinks and lollies during the summer, at Christmas handing out mince pies.  People are almost shocked to receive something for nothing.  The church should be different and ‘radical’ in today’s society. We come with the greatest free gift…….Jesus.

It is important that as a church we are relevant

It is important that as a church we are relevant to the local area in demonstrating the love of God and our faith.  Breaking down barriers is more often through love and deeds rather than words.

What we are discovering is that as we demonstrate the love of God, God is blessing us as a fellowship with new faces and new friends. Word is getting around and it is definitely making a difference.
